The association between physicians' exercise counseling and physical activity in patients with cancer: Which roles do patients' satisfaction and prev…

2020

Objectives The purpose of this study was to examine the association between physicians' exercise counseling and post-diagnosis physical activity (PA) in patients with cancer by investigating the mediating role of patients' satisfaction with exercise counseling as well as the moderating role of patients' previous PA. Methods The study sample consisted of 1002 people with cancer (503 breast, 265 prostate, and 234 colorectal cancer). Participants reported their pre- and post-diagnosis moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA) levels, indicated whether their physician had covered different steps of exercise counseling as defined by the 5A framework (Assess, Advise, Agree, Assist, and Arrange) and rated th…

Neural Network-Based Process Analysis in Sport

2011

Processes in sport like motions or games are influenced by communication, interaction, adaptation, and spontaneous decisions. Therefore, on the one hand, those processes are often fuzzy and unpredictable and so have not extensively been dealt with, yet. On the other hand, most of those processes structurally are roughly determined by intention, rules, and context conditions and so can be classified by means of information patterns deduced from data models of the processes. Self organizing neural networks of type Kohonen Feature Map (KFM) help for classifying information patterns – either by mapping whole processes to corresponding neurons (see Perl & Lames, 2000; McGarry & Perl, 200…

Slacking with the Bot: Programmable Social Bot in Virtual Team Interaction

2021

Nonhuman communicators are challenging the prevailing conceptualizations of technology-mediated team communication. Slackbot is a social bot that can be configured to respond to trigger words and, thus, take part in discussions on the platform. A set of 84 bot-related communication episodes were identified from a journalistic team's Slack messages (N=45,940) and analyzed utilizing both qualitative content analysis and interaction process analysis (IPA). This integrated mixed-methods analysis revealed novel insights into the micro-level dynamics of human-machine communication in organizational teams. In response to Slackbot's greetings, acclamations, work-related messages, and relational mes…

Biznesa procesu laiksakritīga izpilde

2021

Skūteru servisa biznesa vadīšanai personīgai lietošanai ir daudz biznesa procesu. Šajā rakstā analizēts viens no šiem biznesa procesiem, konkrēti: skūteru piegāde personīgai lietošanai.

On the effectiveness of numerical simulation in the prediction of profile distortion in extrusion

2005

Among the so-called ‘traditional processes’, extrusion represents one of the most diffused and utilized, since it permits the production of many industrial parts and raw materials. Of course, relevant knowledge on process mechanics and practice is nowadays available in the technical literature and in properly constructed handbooks. On the other hand, the introduction of finite element simulation, as a powerful analysis and design tool, opened new perspectives. Nowadays many researchers are involved in research tasks aimed at explaining some peculiar extrusion aspects. In this paper the effectiveness of numerical simulation for a complex three-dimensional extrusion process analysis is inves…

New relations between professional and work’s organizations introduced by computer applications, special vessel case study

2019

At present time the project of a naval vehicle, where with the word project we refer to all the process of design and manufacturing, especially when the vehicle offers special formal and performance characteristics, involves a number of operators that has been increasing considerably in recent decades, and this increased complexity can be correlated with dimensional and typological growth of many categories of ships. Simultaneously we are witnessing a complete new project approach, where the possibility given by the computer contribution to represent processes and results becomes crucial. The paper aims to investigate the consequences of this progress in the organization of the project and …

What makes a good study day? An intraindividual study on university students’ time investment by means of time-series analyses

2019

Abstract University students often claim to have problems managing the time required to carry out their study demands successfully, which leads to discontent. The question is how much time do students really invest in their studies, what changes occur in time investment over a full academic term, and finally, how is study time related with students' daily study satisfaction? Daily time-series data taken from 105 university students over 154 days were analyzed by means of process analysis techniques and multilevel analysis. The learning time trajectories show a quadratic trend in independent study time and a linear decrease in lecture time. Students' daily study satisfaction was positively r…

Determination of Bubble Size Distribution Using Ultrasound Array Imaging

2020

In this article, ultrasonic phased arrays are deployed as an imaging tool for industrial process analysis. Such arrays are typically used for sonar, medical diagnosis, and nondestructive testing; however, they have not yet been applied to industrial process analysis. The precise positioning of array elements and high frequencies possible with this technology mean that highly focused images can be generated, which cannot currently be achieved using ultrasound tomography. This article aims to highlight the potential of this technology for the measurement of bubble size distribution (BSD) and to demonstrate its application to both intrusive and noninvasive process measurements. Ultrasound imag…

Comparative study of the environmental footprints of marinas on European Islands

2021

AbstractPorts have been key elements in Europe's economic development. This situation is even more relevant on islands, which are highly dependent on the maritime sector. Consequently, over the years, ports with diverse functionalities have been established both in mainland Europe and on its outlying islands. This article discusses the environmental impact of leisure marinas on European islands, especially as they are closely linked to economic development through tourism. The aim is to study the environmental impact of these infrastructures by determining the carbon and water footprints of marinas on European islands in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. The results obtained enable the au…

Application of sequential injection analysis to pharmaceutical analysis.

2005

Sequential injection analysis is a well established tool for automation of pharmaceutical analysis. A short historical background of this technique is given as well as a brief discussion on the basic principles and potentials. The current applications of SIA in the pharmaceutical analysis are also described and discussed. The manifolds developed offer good analytical characteristics and are suitable for analysis of drug formulations, process analysis, drug-dissolution, drug-release testing and functional assays for screening potential drugs. The results obtained are in good agreement with those furnished by the application of the reference methods presented in the pharmacopoeias.
